Kate Sweeney
MS, RD
Kate is a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor living in Germany and serving clients in Europe and the United States. Kate specializes in providing care to individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and digestive issues.
Kate’s approach to nutrition, food, and eating is individualized, holistic, exposure-based, and relational. In addition to supporting the nutritional needs of clients, she considers the healing aspects of food and eating like self-nourishment, pleasure, and culture. She enjoys helping people gain a sense of freedom with food and eating while meeting their nutrition needs. Kate approaches nutrition therapy with humor, compassion, and caring firmness. She is fiercely passionate about helping people heal and recover from disordered eating.
Kate creates an individualized approach to each client using her training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Family Based Therapy (FBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention. She offers exposure coaching to clients struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD).
Prior to living and working in Germany, she worked at Boston College for 6 years as the Administrative Dietitian specializing in eating disorders and food service, where she did everything from recipe development to creating a campus-wide protocol for students struggling with eating disorders. She has also worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston as manager of the outpatient nutrition department. She has experience in hospital, university, food service and business settings as a counselor, teacher, manager and consultant.
Kate received her Masters Degree in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy (2011). She has a Masters in Science in Biology from Tufts University (2005). She completed the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) from Simmons University in 2012 and did her dietetic internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Kate loves being active, and in her 30s she competed for Team USA in triathlon and was ranked top 18 in the female 31-35 age group for 4 years. Kate loves coffee Oreo ice cream and enjoys spending time in nature whether that means hiking or sitting on a bench.
